This is a Post Turtle, Projecting

Via Obama Said, ‘If You’ve Got a Business, You Didn’t Build That’?… I think someone turned off his teleprompter at just the wrong time.

Since he didn’t exactly stay on script and seems to have stuck his foot pretty deep into his mouth, I’ll clarify what he meant to say:

We’ve already made a trillion dollars’ worth of cuts (after increasing spending by three to twelve trillion.  But while the increased spending already happened, the cuts are projected to happen at some distant point in the future if some future Congress happens to enact the unrealistic budget proposals we didn’t try to pass). We can make some more cuts in programs that don’t work (such as your trying to get us to follow the Constitution), and make government work more efficiently (efficient at taking your paycheck)…We can make another trillion or trillion-two, (after increasing spending another five or twenty trillion-two) and what we then do is ask for the wealthy (and everyone else) to pay a little (lot) bit more …

There are a lot (two) of wealthy, successful Americans (… err I mean Democrat politicians) who agree with me, because they want to give something back (have the government take your money and property). They know they didn’t -look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You (I) didn’t get there on your (my) own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something – there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there (whom I haven’t yet been able to convince to live off the dole, so I’m going to try to tax them into oblivion instead).

If you were successful, somebody (Investors) along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher (or Mentor) somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive (They were the Founding Fathers, and the DHS has decided that if you believe in the founding principles of this nation, you might be a terrorist). Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business. you didn’t build that. (I don’t know how businesses are built.  I’ve never had a real job in my life.)  Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. (Al Gore worked hard to invent the Internet.) Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet. (Government research, followed by hundreds of thousands of private man-hours of labor, billions of dollars of private investment in research and development, hardware and infrastructure, years of work, and many many private individuals inventing all the different bits of hardware, software, interoperability and communication standards, and so forth that created the Internet, where anyone could start a business without nearly the amount of stifling government regulation encountered by brick-and-mortar businesses — but don’t worry, we, the Government, are working hard to figure out some way to regulate the Internet, and to restrict the free speech you have there.)

In short, Obama is admitting that he’s never worked a day in his life to earn anything that’s come his way.  Even in the Senate, he did little more than vote “Present.”   Every job he’s ever had has been handed to him by the manipulators who wanted him where he is now.  Someone picked this turtle up and set it on a post.

He cannot fathom a passionate entrepreneur working 80 to 90 hours  a week to make their dreams come true.

He seems blissfully ignorant of how difficult it is to do something as simple as starting a car service in a city like San Francisco, where a local government running a $170 million deficit will still spend any amount necessary to squash your business and put your workers on the dole.

He imagines every company is like Solyndra, Tesla, the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project, 38 Studios, Fisker, GM, Goldman Sachs, and every other company he’s worked with — because he only works with people who are willing to trade massive campaign donations and favors for millions of taxpayer dollars and favorable legislation.

He literally cannot comprehend that there are hardworking people out there who actually earn their way in this world without any government assistance, and who just want to be left alone to prosper or fail on their own merits.

The Chicago politician cannot imagine any other way of operating besides corrupt Chicago politics.

And he thinks Romney is out of touch? (And just to be clear, I’m not pro-Romney in the least.)

Edit 7/20/2012:

The excellent Thomas Sowell weighs in on Obama’s rhetoric:

Take Obama’s example of the business that benefits from being able to ship their products on roads that the government built. How does that create a need to “give back”?

Did the taxpayers, including business taxpayers, not pay for that road when it was built? Why should they have to pay for it twice?

What about the workers that businesses hire, whose education is usually created in government-financed schools? The government doesn’t have any wealth of its own, except what it takes from taxpayers, whether individuals or businesses. They have already paid for that education. It is not a gift that they have to “give back” by letting politicians take more of their money and freedom.

When businesses hire highly educated people, such as chemists or engineers, competition in the labor market forces them to pay higher salaries for people with longer years of valuable education. That education is not a government gift to the employers. It is paid for while it is being created in schools and universities, and it is paid for in higher salaries when highly educated people are hired.

One of the tricks of professional magicians is to distract the audience’s attention from what they are doing while they are creating an illusion of magic. Pious talk about “giving back” distracts our attention from the cold fact that politicians are taking away more and more of our money and our freedom.

Obama actually made an accurate economic prediction!!!

While I have stubbornly believed that Obama has been wrong in every one of his political and economic policy moves, in the same way non-digitial clocks can occasionally be right, it seems Obama can unintentionally get it right, too:

Solyndra was touted by the Obama administration as a prime example of how green technology could deliver jobs.

Solyndra was a “major manufacturer of solar technology.”  How does this green technology deliver jobs?

“I was told by a security guard to get my [stuff] and leave,” one employee said. The company employ[ed] a little more than 1,000 employees worldwide, according to its website.

Apparently by soaking up free government money, not developing any marketable products, and then delivering a bunch of laid-off workers to the unemployment aisle.

A big clue that these people had no idea what they were doing should have been that they were opening a manufacturing facility in California, of all places!  Way to stack the deck against yourself there, greenie!
