NRA: No endorsement for Reid or Angle?

The NRA again shows their weasly refusal to support a non-GOP gun rights supporter.  While it’s comforting to see them finally draw a line in how bad of a candidate they are willing to endorse, it still boggles the mind to wonder why they refuse to endorse actual pro-gun candidates.  Are they afraid they’ll go out of business if we get real constitutionalists in office?

“The vote on Elena Kagan’s confirmation to the Court, along with the previous year’s confirmation vote on Sonia Sotomayor, are critical for the future of the Second Amendment. After careful consideration, the NRA-PVF announced today that it will not be endorsing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for re-election in the 2010 U.S. Senate race in Nevada.”

Not if The New York Times is correct in their analysis:”

The group will not endorse Mr. Reid’s Tea Party backed challenger, Sharron Angle, either, despite her work to win members over…Keenly aware of the blow, a spokesman for Mr. Reid’s campaign responded quickly, noting that the N.R.A. donated nearly $5,000 to Mr. Reid and nothing to Ms. Angle and that the group’s vice president, Wayne LaPierre, once called Mr. Reid a “true champion of the Second Amendment.”

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is even more definitive:

“An NRA spokesman said the organization will not be backing Angle either. ‘We will not be making any endorsement in the Nevada Senate race,’ said Andrew Arulanandam, the group’s public affairs director.”

Why the hell not? What kind of weaselly equivocation is that?

NRA made great noise during the recent DISCLOSE Act debacle about being a “single-issue organization” with a “sworn duty to protect the Second Amendment.”

Look at Angle’s record on guns. From Project Vote Smart:”Based on lifetime voting records on gun issues and the results of a questionnaire sent to all state legislative candidates in 2004, the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund assigned AM Sharron E. Angle a grade of A…”

Gun Owners of America has endorsed Angle. And look at what she is willing to go on the record and be held accountable to. Seriously–take a few minutes and read her answers to the Gun Rights Political Questionnaire Sen, Reid, incidentally, did not respond.

Free Land: Build Your Homestead Without the Debt

A tip on how to get free land, if you’re willing to move to where it is:

If you were inspired by our Firsthand Reports Off the Grid and Thriving or Learning to Live a Self-Sufficient Life but don’t have the funds ready to move to your own homestead, opportunities for free land and other big incentives might revive your dreams of self-sufficiency.

freelandEchoing the Homestead Act of 1862 which offered settlers ownership of up to 60 acres in exchange for (and after) farming it for five years, small towns looking to boost or stabilize population are giving away free housing lots. This practice, dubbed mini-homesteading, attracts residents and businesses to dwindling rural communities. Free land has drawn folks from across the country and, for a few communities, has saved small town businesses and public schools from closing.

Study shakes up scientists’ view of San Andreas earthquake risk – Los Angeles Times

I wonder how California’s political climate would change after a humongous earthquake destroyed most of the LA valley?  MAYBE WE’LL FIND OUT SOON.

Southern California is long overdue for a major earthquake along the San Andreas fault, according to a landmark study of historic seismic activity released Friday.

The study, produced after several years of field studies in the Carrizo Plain area about 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles, found that earthquakes along the San Andreas fault have occurred far more often than previously believed.

For years, scientists have said major earthquakes occurred every 250 to 450 years along this part of the San Andreas. The new study found big temblors on the fault every 88 years, on average.

The last massive earthquake on that part of the fault was in 1857, leading scientists to warn that another such temblor is likely in Southern California.

Behind the Scenes of Top Shot

An armed society is a polite society, because shooters are the coolest people around!

2. Unlike most reality TV shows, the competitors had a great deal of respect for each other. When one team lost a challenge, the other would cook dinner for them, and Tara baked cakes and cookies non-stop. Since the show aired, there have been numerous viewing parties and mini-reunions around the country where shooters from both teams have met up to celebrate. Brad and Pete recently met up with Blake in New Orleans; Pete, Frank and Adam rendezvoused in Baltimore and Tara and Caleb joined me for the finale in Oregon where we packed out a bar with shooters, friends, family and the occasional bemused passerby. There’s talk of a full reunion in November.
